The scent.

A J C 1958 (Swansea, MA)

The scent

I can smell the scent of lilacs in the air every time you come near. I go to sleep and wake up in the middle of the night, and the scent is still there. Now it's on my pillowcase, in my mind, and in my dreams. It's like you put a spell on me. But you can't be seen. I run and hide, but the scent finds me. What did you do to me? Or is it all just a bad dream? Then there is a knock on the door, and the scent is stronger. I open the door, and it's my best friend Nicole from next door. Now I'm sitting on the floor with a beer in one hand and lilacs in the other.

About this poem

The girl next door wears lilac perfume. That's where it's coming from I assume.
