Come up and see me
Come up and see me to talk of old times,
of folk we knew and the bell that chimes,
half a league on from where I have been,
half a league on from what you had seen.
To talk of moments trapped in space,
and idle gossip seen in it's place,
a time to wonder at all that's now past,
and all the faces I knew would not last.
People that came and people that left,
and all of those crimes that left us bereft,
what good is a memory if the whole lot were rot,
I'm better off out and keep what I've got.
So come up and see me and I'll feign a smile,
politely ignoring all of the while,
I once viewed the sun distant and high,
where it soars on to so shall I.
