Radiant Crimson

Radiant crimson seeps through my mind
As intoxicating and double edged as white wine
It's as through my soul is fractured into a million microscopic shreds
The very moment I let my rage go to my head
It is impossible to think anything other than “I would be better off dead”

I cannot face my friends, cannot look my parents in the eye
The idiot’s jest has morphed into a knife
Slashing and cutting as it cares out my eye

What used to be joy leaves me writhing in anguish
The arms of my lover turn cold when I am near
Freezing like marble as my eyes shed no tears
Looking so still while trapped shivering in fear

My family looks at me with a grief that slices through my heart
As my unfeeling eyes plead with them to set my spirit free
All the while thinking: it is too late for me
