DEATH IS A BLUNDER

EVBO-ABEL OGOIGBE 1964 (Benin City)

DEATH IS A BLUNDER

Again, my heart bleeds
Tears tumble down my cheeks indeed
Though death is not a stranger
I think now it ought to be kinder

Death is a blunder, a blunder
Those it snatches away, snatches
Are those that matter, matter

There ought to be a road
That is decked in silver and gold
Where the aged and those ready
Thread at sunset to eternity

But death swoops like hawks ashore
To snatch - and snack - on our love
Leaving us to gasp and wail at it's bigotry
To nurse pains which defy any panacea

Oh death, empathy is not your pathway!
You are dead to the ache in our hearts!
Begone! Let go your cruel ways!
Though you are death, you too shall die!

Death is a blunder, a blunder
Those it snatches away, snatches
Are those that matter, matter
