grayscale

an empty building stands
with dozens of its twins
i know within are residents
but to admit i'm hesitant
that anything is anything but empty in berlin.

a man is stood alone
and holding someone's hand.
i see it is not solitude
but all i hear are platitudes
it seems the words themselves are rendered empty in milan.

a brand new windowpane
is shattered by a gun
i hear the shot and disapprove
but still i do not make a move
for every house eventually is empty in london.

a restaurant is closed
they wash their final forks
i hope to join tomorrow's queue
but always i have work to do
one day the restaurants too will be empty in new york.

the sun is rising soon
the smoke begins to curl
i witness every starting car
and watch the final fading star
and don't get hired at the bar
but despite all the things there are
i know that truly, everything is empty in the world.
