Her name

Nusaiba Ntakirutimana 2002 (Castonhov)

I’ll embody it with everything
the fire burning at the back of my throat
The strength and courage I lacked
I’ll wrap it with achievements I could’ve grabbed
Wash it clean of all regrets and mistakes
My mind couldn’t fathom
I’ll call it with the pride my father failed to see in me
And kiss it with love that my mother could not portray
Her name will be a signature
One that scares the Gods
And tribesman bow to
Her name will have the essence of bravery
Eloquence free from slender
She’ll live to bear the weight of the crown

About this poem

This poem is about how parents don't allow children to grow or explore because of the expectations they have in the child and how they want them to be a perfect image of their selves when they were younger
