Unrest

Unlawful force sustained
presses final
justice refused
affronts a beleaguered peace

Protesting crowds diverse
gather in cities full
venting voices burst
against blue intemperance

Jabbing batons alternate
violently with shielded blows
a jostling resistance
stands its ground

Civil unrest accelerates
through burning skies
bruised cities stagger
in smokey chaos

a gray morning awakens
in disturbed silence
tarnishing winds
sweep across an unsettled land

About this poem
