Vanishing Light

Curtis Pegram 2007 (Cincinnati, Ohio)

In a world no longer mine,
The sun which used to shine.
I walked until I was lost,
till’ I forgot about the frost.

I heard only the crunch before my feet,
As I grazed across the frozen leaves.
All the people I wanted to meet,
Left like hibernating bees.

A miracle I was still here,
Using a burning branch to see.
All the wonders used to be so near,
That’s where I want to be.

I fear as the light dwindles,
Not knowing where to go.
Then I remember what still kindles.
Who makes the sky glow.
