Remembering

Remembering * 1941 (St. Louis)

Remembering *

Sometimes there calls a sudden tear
Tap-tapping on my memory pane
Empty nights when ghosts appear
Floating gently on salty rain
Unbidden my lost love drifts near
Warm arms around me once again
Enfolding me as they did then
Those passions breeched, a lover’s sigh
Oh, how we flew, my love and I

About this poem

This poem was written to the girl I asked to marry me on our first date 63 years ago. It was the best and smartest thing I have ever done.
