Old Room

Back home for Christmas
Sleeping in my old room
In the same house I grew up in
In the same town I'm from

It takes me back to a simpler time
Though not necessarily better
But less complicated nonetheless

A time when I did not have as many choices
Or responsibilities
Or freedoms

A time when I just had to focus on what was predetermined
A time where I did not know as much as I do now
A time when I did no have as many friends as I do now
A time where I did not have it as fingered it out as I do now

Not to say I have it all fingered out now
But, certain more than I did then
At least now I know what I don’t know
Knowledge is power
But ignorance can be bliss sometimes
And remembering is nice sometimes

So, I sit in between four walls
In a place I know so well
Now far away from where I am
And visit the past
But not stay

About this poem

I wrote this poem while visiting my parents for the holidays. It explored remembering the past while being thankful of how far you've come.
