Christmas is Coming
Alan Harrell 1946 (Plant City, FL)
With snow on the bushes and ice on the ground
There is seen signs of Christmas all over the town.
The shoppers are busy buying presents galore
All running like ants in and out every store.
All colors of lights along the street can be seen
And we hear songs of Christmas as carolers sing.
Then what to my wondering I think in my mind
Is the meaning of Christmas really here and alive?
We hear songs of Santa and reindeers and sleighs
And all about presents for all on that day.
But what about Jesus and His birth for us all
When church bells are ringing do we all still recall?
Yes, Christmas is coming with it's joys of the season
But does Jesus get lost as the very real reason?
As children are nestled on a cold Christmas eve
With visions of Santa Claus coming to please.
And stockings are hung hoping Santa will fill
To bring to the children a grand Christmas thrill.
Then on that morning expectations are high
To see what dear Santa had left there last night.
But here lies the question to us all we must ask.
When did Santa take over and we let Jesus pass?
The Bethlehem story from times long ago
Give us all the true meaning of what Christmas is for.
Jesus came for salvation for us all on that day
And He didn't arrive in a little red sleigh.
The legends of Christmas that we all know so well
Tell us Christmas is coming but for who they don't tell.
So why not of Jesus in a manger He lay
Among lowing cattle in a barn full of hay?
For He was the present God sent to us all
In the meekest of settings for the big and the small.
That present is still here and now for all time
It will last far beyond when Christmas day has gone by.
