A poets plight

Shaffina Mohammed 1989 (Sangre Grande)

She grabbed her ideas
Along with her writing materials
Scanning through her sharp brains
Vigorously in search of titles
A firm grip, a loaded mind
Encourages a grin that follow
Pen to paper, it's quite rapid
As adjectives seem to flow
Jotting down a single word
A masterpiece of poem, she thought
Yet no twist nor plot
All great ideas erased by doubt
Her misuse of punctuations also
Makes her poem cry
There is no crook in her adventure
Only schemes all in a bunch
Gracefully detached
She took a deep sigh
Dumping the notepad aside
She is pumped with regrets
Looking in awe, she shed a tear
Whimpering, she stood over her gears
Swept away by defeat
Another phenomenal poem incomplete

I am really impressed with your poem, ‘A Poet’s Plight’! You have successfully brought out the emotional journey of a poet very effectively through your verse. Your language use is appealing and your creativity is truly noteworthy. The continuity and rhythm maintained throughout the poem enhances its beauty. You have done a tremendous job depicting the roller-coaster journey from anticipation to regret. It’s a poignant exploration of a poet's process which many people will connect with.

However, to make your poem even more impactful, here are few suggestions. I suggest paying a little more attention to punctuation as it can change the way your lines are read and interpreted. Also, you might want to consider structuring your poem with more consistent rhythm and rhyme to improve its musicality. It would heighten the emotional direction of your piece. In terms of content, perhaps adding in more concrete imagery might offer your readers stronger visuals and enhance their emotional connection to the poem and the poet.

Lastly, while the weaving of uncertainty and self-doubt is powerful, perhaps you can add a pinch of hope or resilience at the end to leave readers with a lasting, resonant message.

Please do keep up the great work! Your poem is a wonderful exploration of a poet's ethos. Can't wait to read your next piece!
