Starting Anew

In a room, a boy sits still, silent and small,
Watching, hearing, feeling it all.
A parent's pain fills up the room,
A boy's heart breaks, consumed by gloom.

The boy grew tall, but not in heart,
His words stayed locked, never to start.
His silence grew, like a darkening sky,
His pain consumed, like a blazing fire.
He walked alone, through life's long road,
His heart a burden, a heavy load.

One day, a friend asked of his dad,
The boy's heart sank, it made him sad.
His friends spoke of success and pride,
But his past held shadows he could not hide.

He met a girl, but held back his heart,
He doubted her love, from the start.
He wondered why she'd care for him,
When his own father, had left him dim.
He questioned all, the love he knew,
But deep inside, he wanted it true."

The boy is me, and I
 wonder why,
Why I was born, to live and cry.
The birthmark on my face, a constant reminder,
Of the pain I feel, growing fonder and fonder.
"Why did I get born?", I  ask each night,
With no answer, just darkness and fright.
"Was it worth it?", I wonder alone,
In my  room, with no one to phone."

I've grown up, but the pain remains,
Like scars etched deep, with burning flames.
I look in the mirror and wonder why,
Did I deserve this, to live and cry?
But then I realize, it's not my fault,
That others may choose to be unkind .
I have a future, I can still decide,
To let go of blame, and be dignified."

I have grown, learning each day,
Stronger and wiser, with a deeper understanding.
The birthmark, once a source of pain,
Now a sign of strength, without disdain.
Forgiveness, for myself and others,
Has allowed me to see life's wonders.
The future's bright, with hope and grace,
A new path forward, in a better place.

About this poem

This poem tells my background, growing up with an abusive father and having to watch him beat my mother without me being able to protect her because i was young . I have a birthday on my left cheek and primary school was a bit too harsh on me, I was teased, called names and isolated from my pears . I kept things to myself because i didn't want to add more stress to my mother, and my father was drunkard so he wouldn't even listen . As time went by things really changed for me, i wasn't teased anymore in high school although i had some insecurities but I'm just starting my life anew .
