On Control

Capsizing while tuning in with the sea
Your eyes are a well of nuancing spells
That redirect my mind, beguiling me
But I must admit I still remain very swell
As a lotus that blooms every night
I lay in the sullen tomb of my room
And I collect my means of taking flight
I feed off of my own impending doom
To recount all of the sheep I have led
Whilst I conspire against my own self
I dread the crystal moon above my head
As I place all of my worth on a shelf
Yet after I’ve dwelled in my venus shell
I know it's infirm ways have suited me well

About this poem

This poem discusses what it is like to fall in love as someone who has a deep fear of losing control. I describe the fear of falling into their eyes and being beguiled by the pleasure and promise of love. I also discuss the comfort and beauty that is held within solitude and the nebulous nature of thought. I finally compare the entropic energies of a contemplative mind to the surrender of love and how the fragility of both have provided me with more stability than ever.
