Monsters

I am the heartbreak, the tears,
And the regret
The painful memories
That you want to forget.
The reason you cry yourself to sleep at night
The true reason why you want to die.
You think you can overcome me
But there's nowhere to run to
So you try to hide
But I've already found you.
I've taken over your mind
And now you're lost
You want to be free
But you don't know the cost.
You want to be normal
But you weren't born that way
So you go to me continually
To try to feel okay.
I am the addictions
You can't overcome,
Your mouth to the bottle
The pill on your tongue.
I am the trauma that follows you through
All of your childhood and all of your youth.
I am the nightmares that keep you awake,
The life that's not yours to live or to take.
You want to be free but you don't know the truth,
So here it is, I'll explain it to you:
You and I together are two,
I am a monster and so are you.
