Me against Me

Levinia louw 1999 (Port Elizabeth)

I don’t act on impulse or revenge
I act on controlled emotion and a tamed temper
I am unbothered by the world’s hammering thought
I am the definition of self- perseverance
But I am also my own poison

I have a lack of self-esteem
But I call myself a human being
I don’t judge too often
But my judgement is fatal to those who hurt me
I am my own enemy

My thoughts become my weakness as it feeds on my fear
But my mind is linked to my heart
And any poisonous thought that exits in my head
Will put my heart on its death bed

Anonymously I became the drug everybody is attracted to
Or the poison that the suicidal minded ingest
I become the host of someone else
But in my own body I am a guest

I am driven by self-damage and torture
I am called names by my darkest parts
I am deceived by the mere thought of finding myself
I am my own challenger
It’s me against me
