Cold Sets In

The rotting of the summer sun makes my eyes turn red,
I cry for all the sleepy trees that had to go to bed.
They say the grass is greener on the other side,
But in the winter all the grass just goes away to hide.
Cold sets in.
Cold sets in.
The grayness of the atmosphere puts someone at ease,
My heart, however, longs for summers gentle morning breeze.
Cozy cocoa takes my mind off chocolate trees outside,
Powdered snowfall makes the footprints act as if my guide.
Cold sets in.
Cold sets in.
Snow and ice coalesce to picturesque abodes,
Summer sun can wait while I go dancing with the snow.
Cold sets in.
Cold sets in.

About this poem

I am an amateur poet, and this is my first time entering anything I wrote into a competition. I really like to leave my poems up to the reader’s interpretation. This one could be about the fear of change being overcome by new delights, learning to cope with the loss of a loved one, being comfortable with sadness. There are millions of ways to interpret it and I love to see what my friends and hopefully the people on here that read it come up with. Thank you for the consideration!
