cement hills

When the hills were still grass
Instead of cement
And we knew where the hours
of each day went,
We'd ride on our horses
Along dusty trails
Over the hills
And down through the swales
The hot summer sun
Felt good on our backs,
We'd water the horses
From our sweaty hats
And sit in the meadow
Chewing on flowers
Wasting away
The long summer hours
The hills are now planted
in towering skyways
Super-fast hiways
Speeding us places we need to go
I travel them often
But my mind always strays
To the hills of my childhood
And long summer days
