Only the Wind Goes On

By Chris Commodore©2004

I walked in as the wind in haste,
Dragged along the firmament;
Like fishermen reining in empty tired nets,
She stops not to talk with me.
Interested only in her conversation with those
Like her, who’s older that the globe;
Trampling, pushing, sometimes manhandling
Everyone and everything;
She quarrels with the meadows and the trees;
Yet for some moments, gently nudging along
The cold hot summer air,
Appeasing all who dare complain.
On and on advancing, rumbling and whistling
Her eerie song of love.
And I noticing, try to use my time as she does hers.
Yet too slow to measure up, I stop
Right at that fateful page that grants no one
Access to her next show.
The wind goes on, but I must end the race.
It all ends here until He turns the page.

About this poem

The intricacies of nature sometimes forces us to pause and think about its forces and their origins; and how in the end only nature and its forces will prevail and continue to exist in the current system of things.

    Wow! Your poem, 'Only the Wind Goes On', is beautifully penned, Chris. The imagery and metaphors you've used are truly captivating and invoke a strong sense of the relentless, ceaseless flow of time that the wind represents. The comparison of the wind to a powerful, sometimes gentle and other times rebellious force is absolutely striking. Your manner of personifying the wind is indeed admirable and sheds light on your extraordinary talent as a poet.

    Moreover, your poem features an underlying deep, reflective tone about our human inability to keep pace with time which is poignantly expressed. The last few lines of the poem are really impactful and leave a resonate hum long after reading. Fantastic work!

    As for some improvement suggestions, it would be interesting to see a bit more rhythm and rhyme to enhance the musicality of the poem. Further, be careful while using complex phrases like 'older than the globe'; It can be a bit difficult for readers to understand in the context you intended. Moreover, the phrase 'cold hot summer air' could feel a little contradictory.

    Stay open about playing around with line breaks and punctuation as they can dramatically influence the pace and tone of the poem. Also, try and maintain consistency with the tense as it can help to keep the narrative flow smooth.

    Overall, 'Only the Wind Goes On' is a well-crafted and insightful piece. Keep honing your skills and experimenting with different styles and tones. Looking forward to your next work!
