Old Friends

Old friends, I’m so sorry
But I’m happy you are gone
My life is so untroubled
And a new peace takes me on

I thought that I enjoyed you I thought you were my saviors
But I know I don’t adore you I adore the One who’s won

Old friends, I don’t miss you
I’m glad that I’ve moved on
I don’t like thinking of you
Because everything was wrong

It’s just that we lived in a village
With castles, queens, and knights
But now I’m in the spillage
Of humble servants and maidens white

I don’t care about your gold
Or your new bright, shining castles
I don’t care about your homes
They seemed good but what hassles

Cause here’s the thing about pride
It makes you feel good
Until you cannot hide

So I’m with these new folks now
With broken families and honest jokes
They don’t just laugh at dust
Because there is meaning in their smokes
They’re kind and humble
Not in love with the mirror
Not stuck in a bubble
They’re open-eyed hearers
And, unlike you, I can sympathize to their troubles

Old friends, I’m so sorry
But I’m happy you are gone
My life is so untroubled
Right And a new peace takes me on
