Trianon

Henri de Regnier 1864 (Honfleur) – 1936 (Paris)



Un souvenir royal, mélancolique et tendre,
Erre dans le palais et rôde par l’allée,
Destin à qui la Mort tragique s’est mêlée,
Poudre et fard devenus du sang et de la cendre.

Dans le jardin désert j’entends la hache fendre
Le sauleroucoula la colombe envolée ;
Les roses ont fleuri l’ombre du mausolée,
Et le ruisseau s’attarde et le banc semble attendre.

Un souvenir s’accoude au dossier des fauteuils ;
Un pas résonne encor sur le marbre des seuils ;
Un fantôme au miroir vient sourire et s’efface.

Le bassin se tarit, et les feuilles au fond
Dessinent, sous l’eau noire où leur or s’entrelace,
La couronne d’un chiffre et la lettre d’un nom.
