From Brittle glass to Sharp Insight

Tee Mariel 1987 (Johannesburg)

Poetry starts as a lump in the throat, a sense of beautiful disbelief, wrongs, and the actual movie coming to life.
Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme; it just has to touch someone where your hands couldn’t.
Poetry is not just relief; poetry is tension.
Poetry is a departure. Poetry is returning.
Poetry is memory.

To the new me I used to be... I hope you’re proud of me. On this day a few years ago, you decided you were sick and tired of being sick and tired. Instead of following society, I chose to pursue sobriety.

Do you know what starving the flesh and feeding the spirit really mean? Do you? There, she found the gift of intuition. Perhaps she was glass, but glass is only brittle until it breaks. Then it was sharp.

Learning about yourself is pure observation—not only of the things outside you but also of that which happens inwardly to observe without the observer.

Stop leaving out the parts of the story where you went wrong. That is where the growth happened, the lessons were learned, and that is where you became you, and those are the parts of your story that will show you who can handle all that you are and who is just passing through.

God will use the devil to help you heal.

The strength of my soul was born on the backs of moments that brought me to my knees.
The best part about a mistake is deciding if it will be an anchor or a sail.

You don’t arrive at the new earth; the new earth arrives through you.

Poetry is not just relief.
Poetry is tension.
 Poetry is a departure.
Poetry is returning.
Poetry is memory.
