Standing

Suzy Ceci 1970 (Guadeloupe)

Standing,
Neither tall nor frail.
Standing,
Erect enough to contend, but not offend.
Standing,
Yet, swift to fall down, soft belly exposed.
Standing,
From the small of the day, ‘til it grows big and heavy on the shoulders.
Standing,
Heart afire beneath, with only quivering lips, testifying.
Even when lying down, standing, still.
Legs noodling, blood sweating,
Standing,
Even when hope has long since deserted these shores.
Standing on the inside while crouching low on the outside.
Standing,
For what is right.
Standing,
For what is life.
In the rain spitting and the wind beating,
In the cold biting and the heat, melting away every resolve,
Standing,
Until the signal comes, the trumpet resounds.
Time to move.
Change is here at last!
Ephesians 6:13-14
… And having done everything to stand firm, stand therefore…
