The Heart Doesn't Forget

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It loves impossible creatures
And sadness and strife, it never picks the easy route
It takes me through forests when I know I should flee

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It attempts to help the injured wild things
Who only bite and claw causing damage
I look at in disbelief, as if the outcome could be altered

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It wants to dance but the partners never seem to match
They strum to a different beat and do not feel the rhythm
Leaving me dancing alone in the spotlight

The heart doesn’t forget what it came here to do
It writes soulful poems and loves impermanent things
Coloring the pages with fragrances of the past
And makes meaning of moments lost

About this poem

The first line came to me in dream and just begged for me to wake up and write it down
