The Gift of You

When you whispered into my heart,
A softness that somehow tore me apart,
The contrast of what I'd known before now,
The vastness, out of darkness, freedom endow.

Something awoke within me that I'd never known,
A spirit of completeness inside me alone,
The gift of you, it changed me inside,
I'll always be different, my heart you inspired.

I now carry a piece of you, forever I know,
You're tucked in my heart, wherever I go,
Sometimes in silence, I feel you with me,
The essence of you, intertwined with me.

I love and appreciate what you gave me in life,
Something so precious it can't be described,
You helped me to find, the key to myself,
A gift meaning more than possessions or wealth.

About this poem

Unexpectedly, he found me in the dark. He showed me where to look for myself, he gently took my hand and led me there. He showed me how it felt to be really loved, and to love fully in return. Then, as suddenly as he came into my life, he walked out of it.
