Revelation

From ash to ash, and dust to dust..
We always paid the devil his dues, because we were told we must..
Then when saw our folly, we knew it to be just...
Because wasn't it always supposed to be in God we trust?
When for everyone else did it become a bust?
Was it when our empires of steel and iron started to rust?
When did Jesus only become just a plus?
Was it only when the widows and orphans started to fuss?
I'll always go there, I won't again ever be shushed..
I for one am all in, and in the mother and father I'll always place my trust...

High tides roll in, the bell tolls high noon...
Did I wait to long to leave?
Did you arrive too soon?
Was there another battle to fight?
Another ambassador to swoon?
Did you find your silver lining?
Did you find there was no spoon?
Did they promise you the world?
Did you dream of the moon?
Will you be swayed by every morning doves swoon?
Or will it be a lullaby to the hangman you try to croon?
What's the song you're singing now?
Do you even remember the name of the tune?

Sands falling in the hourglass, another memory faded.
Another fate come and passed..
Another mother or sister gone...
Another Star burned out too fast..
Is there anything you've learned?
Any lessons that were amassed?
Or is the knowledge too far out of reach?
Are the feelings too vast?
Can you keep up with my rhetoric?
Am I going too fast?
Should I keep going?
Would you like to be left aghast?
I've got plenty of truth, and generations of sass..
Come on and have another go..
Play your cards then, make a pass..
Are you sick of my voice yet?
Am I being too crass?
Or is it just that your thoughts are empty?
Is your house made of glass?
Or maybe truth was never something they taught in your class..

Hear me now, though my tears aren't out loud...
The volume of my misery, how awful the sound..
Some days I wish I could just fade away, get lost I the crowd..
I miss the days of old, for self we could be proud..
Now every victory looks only like a burial mound..
I tried not to say anything, but the pain was so loud..
And come to find out you can scream the loudest, without ever even making a sound..
I need to put this pain and anger to bed, I need to ground.
I always knew I wasn't lost..
I never needed to be bound..
I was always safe and found, right at the speed of sound...
Now I know have a choice, and I'm done going round and round..
To your own hell you choose To be bound..
Are you really in for a penny, in for a pound?
Will you let all your hopes, dreams and fears continue to be unfound?
Maybe eventually you will lay it all to bed at the feet of the only king that ever should have been crowned...
Just know it's never to late to turn your story around..
Faith, hope, and love are enough to keep anyone from being disavowed..
I hope for your own self eventually you can then be proud...
I guess until then I'll stay here and keep saying it out loud..
I refuse to be another mother or sister whose voice just got lost in the crowd..
With this voice for a reason, I was so endowed...
For that reason alone, I'll keep saying thank you, to the most Highly Renowned...
       Amen

About this poem

While Going through some of the hardest times of my life I couldn't really find the right words to explain my feelings. I had too many of them. I'm native american and my heritage, my faith, my intelligence and my grief are the biggest parts of what make me who I am.. this poem was me trying to put the way I felt into words others might be able to relate to and understand.
