Ghosted

Michelle Hoffman 1980 (Chattanooga, TN)

September 23

When I was looking for nothing
you appeared, opaque
then less so
and now clear
- a ghost -

Hand to my ear,
you quieted to a whisper
and then a tickle;
A single hair grazing my shoulder
and falling to the ground
to be later swept into the trash

I guess I got what I was looking for
