Acceptance

Jackie Newport 1952 (Chicago)

Is acceptance instantaneous? Hardly!
Sometimes acceptance is easy
Other times it comes after years of fighting it
Sometimes it sneaks up on us
We don't even realize we accepted something
Until our protests seem silly to us
We all fight the inevitability of getting older
Then we realize surprise! We are
There will always be somethings we will never accept
That being mean and cruel is cool
That just because someone is mean to you
Doesn't mean you have to lower yourself to their level
And be mean back
Two wrongs don't make a right
You have to accept that you can't change people
No matter how much you wish you could
But the biggest thing you have to accept
Is that you are the only person who can change you
But only if you want to
Accepting this is never easy but by accepting it
Half the battle is won
Life is never going to be easy no matter how old you get
But realizing these truths
Will make it a little bit easier
