A process
DAVIDWEST PRINCE ABBOTIYE GASHOOM 2004 (Ilelema, Asari-Toru, Rivers State)
DEATH
Bartered by metal and blood
With red, the spring of it flows
Scattered and open the area of mental
With fading eyes, a body being pushed on wheels
Rushing sounds like that of the wind
Wait do I hear voices, of people it be?
It all fades and black but eyes reopened
A light, a bright light shines to face
Watching, helplessly watching!
As it puts on it's clothes
Torture, oh torture I thought
But peace, I felt peace all over!
It all started fading without control
Struggling did the body but succumbed
With blackening of eyes heard voices say
It will be very quick
But with sluggishness it came!
Cold, creeping and rolling but slow
Climbed it from down and slow till top!
The pumping stops with slow sounds
The shocks did the leaving soul feel
But it was far, too far to come
Back it looked but goes forward
Then sorrow and cries fills the room!
About this poem
Written from imagination and how the processes of death take place. How would the dying person feel and what goes on in the medical room! The dying person tries to explain how he feels and what he is seeing
