Baraya

Baraya, Baraya,
So said the peasant,
Oh Baraya!
Screamed the dying men.

Sufferings screamed a melody,
The rhythm of it,
ever so ugly,
Baraya, Baraya,
Oh Baraya!

Pain is a blanket,
The madmen would say,
Its end I may reach,
The wise men would pray.

What meaning does it hold,
The scream, barbarian and hoarse?
Baraya, Baraya,
Said the famished,
Oh Baraya!
Prayed the banished.

Meaningless are the screams.
Useless are the prayers,
What is your pity,
To the one of infinite despair?

Baraya, Baraya,
The prayer, the scream,
Oh Baraya!
What does suffering even mean?

About this poem

This poem talks about baraya, the word which has no meaning, and is the prayer repeated throughout the poem, which much like the scream of suffering has no meaning. And that is what the poem wishes to portray, suffering has no meaning.
