Shards

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

Broken Bits of glass

Remnants of another's
piece of history

A broken bottle on a playground
Sadly cast aside

Reminding us

Be cautious
where you step

Meaningful dreams
live here

Let's stop

Share a moment
everyday

And a smile
celebrating life

Have a puddle party

Let's splash and play
While there's still daylight

All This

becomes
another world
at night

As all too often

we lead our lives
compartmented in our private flowing pools

Our bodies push pulled along
Within the mainstream

Amidst echoes of life

Touched by this reality
together But at what cost

As a life nearby
is bled indiscriminately

Gone!

As we continue on Living
despite the loss
