The Harbor of Dreams

In New York there is history
Of immigrants who sought
Their freedom from the misery
Of homelands filled with fraught.

Some left behind the home and friends,
They had for many years.
Not knowing where their search would end,
While drowning in their tears!

Some left their job and family,
And came with little more
Than dreams of what they hoped would be
True life on friendly shores.

Most immigrants came with the goal
That freedom would be found,
And knew it'd be no easy stroll
Where they could settle down.

America was sometimes called,
The "melting pot" for those
Who left life that made them appalled,
So Miss Liberty they chose!
