With Blinders On

Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)

When horses pulled a plow back then,
Before the tractors did,
Sometimes they were distracted when
They saw something amid

Surrounding lands with bushes that
Might have something among
Their branches, leaves worth looking at
Like critters and their young.

Restricting field of vision can
Reduce the chances they
Might not go where the farmer planned
And wander their own way.

Some people wander like a horse
Through life and don't achieve
A single goal they set, of course,
Since "blinders" not conceived.

This is a marvelous poem. It takes a case of long ago to make an analysis, and it works well and the poem is successful in this approach.
The rhyme scheme works for it makes sense and helps the meaning of the poem or what the poem is trying to convey.
It was a pleasure to read these wonderful verses.
