Neither Left Nor Out Of Sight
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Neither left nor accept to be out of sight.
Of being wrong many times.
And when right, I express my mind.
I am not the kind to leave behind,
Mistakes I have made to pretend not done.
Quick to admit them,
I will do to prove...
Everything to know I don't.
And lessons to learn I won't refuse to do.
I may not be among the many,
Who find excuses and alibis to make.
Nor a professional baseball player.
Expected to hit home runs.
To then disappoint,
When I foul out at the plate.
Disbelieving it was me 'booed' as a fake!
I choose and wish to be the best,
At whatever it is I attempt to endeavor.
Regardless if my efforts made should leave,
Mediocrity perceived to achieve...
Represents and reflects my capabilities.
Yet no one knows better than myself to show,
So much is still left in my mind to reveal.
But...
Time is not mine to borrow.
Rule over nor control.
Like some who are heard too often to say,
It takes time to do anything.
Although...
The mind I have with aging to do.
Has yet proven to me it will stay the way it is.
Without fading away to remember,
What it was I did even yesterday.
To improve on my attempts made today!
Neither am I left.
Nor accept being out of sight.
Walking up to a door late at night.
With a using a key to then be told,
I am at the wrong door.
Done one or two times before.
But my doing is understood.
By a neighbor who suggested,
A leaving on a light outside of 'my' door.
Could and might,
Prevent them from calling the police.
Regardless if I am recognized.
'Oh no...
Not again?'
'I'm so sorry.
I apologize.
I have no idea,
Why, sometimes, I can not remember...
Where I live.'
'No problem.
But I am willing to bet,
If you stopped dressing like a teenager.
You will, hopefully, as an adult,
Receive more respect.
With accepting you to be much older.'
'Do you mind telling me what time it is?'
'No problem.
Let's see.
I would say...
It is time for you to wake up.
And for me and my family to go back to bed!'
'LOL...
That's funny.
I'm glad we are neighbors.'
'Only time will tell for how long.
You live over there.
Goodnight!
And remember,
Aging to do it lived...
Is a blessing few should ignore.'
'I...uh...huh?'
'Goodnight.
Or...
Good morning.
You've got me confused.'
