Cross-Purposes

She said, "I do not understand
And probably never will,
That you object to what I've planned;
My hope you often kill!"

Before today, all things seemed right
Between my friend and me.
But slowly she began to fight
The ways I hoped would be

The day-to-day relationship
Of friends who really care,
Since there can be no partnership
If one controls the pair!

I told he how I felt about
The lack of "give and take".
I also said I had much doubt
That changes she could make.

She did not know how to respond
And so she left and I moved on.
