Modern Poetry

Guillermo Gitz 1949 (Buenos Aires)

How to poetize modernity
without a pseudo social survey.
Neither a net inventory of vehicles
nor a fine census on decadency.

How to symbolize the current city,
perhaps like the ubiquitous Sandburg
praising to cement and metal.
Or cursing the paganism
in Lowell’s babelic Boston.

How to fictionalize a century gone?
without any contemporary cliché.
Like mentioning the words: global, chaos,
apocalypse or futurama.

About this poem

It is about the difficulty to express, poetize, codify or evoke this modern epoch in a new contemporary way.

My literary biography is very simple. I was a University student of literature. Before and after, my interest in fiction made me an avid reader of different literary genres. But it was in poetry that I tried to express myself to the best of my ability. In that concern I have written poems and several of them were published in collective collections, but I have also published a poetry book named: “A modern sun” in 2017. I have competed in international literary prizes where I have obtained various awards. I usually post some of my poems onto different literary platforms. more…
