Childhood Nightmares

Poem: Childhood Nightmares

Close your eyes and follow me into a place of mass destruction

Into a place where innocent kids die because bullets outside just blast for nothing

Snatching babies from their homes just leaving mommas hopeless

When dealers decide to slang dope more and start to hope less

Into a place where it's kill or be killed visualize the civilized turned into criminalized and victimized

Where snitching can get you bullets in mommas kitchen

Or bullets in your children
or close friends missin

Envision drive byes being done with precision

Precaution,
lost in the hoods of the ghetto, the rules in the streets

Where staring at someone too long can and will get you beat

Looking to survive So we got babies toting heat

Pull the trigga little man there ain't time to get cold feet

When a lifestyle is forced upon you before you are able to differentiate your left from you right

Where the smell of gun powder greets you in the day while the ringing of gun shots wake you at night

Begin to confuse life with Nightmares
Start living out lucid dreams

But these pictures ain't perfect
And neither is our endings

Where one on one fist fights turn into a battle between gangs with guns and knives

Mamas tryna protect these kids but too scared to step outside.

When children are victims of grown man mistakes

Robbed of their innocence
And given bullets with the wrong name

Where colors can get you killed if seen in the wrong place

Cuz Pirus and Crips empty clips
More often than kids by chips at the corner store

Got chips on their shoulders and don't even know why anymore.

Where fellow brethren see each other as nothing but targets

A place that brings "the man" pleasure, a grin placed upon his face as more brothers are seen off the market

A place full of bloods and crips

Who leave nothing behind but a lot of blood or crippled people

Where the only goal is to make it through another day breathin

Follow me into a place where dreams are only dreams, no attempts to reach them

Scared to grab hold of them
because nobody wants to cuddle with their Nightmares

Where you gotta grow up fast cause momma won't always be right there

Dealers approach you saying I got what you need right here

Careless killers, shoot you down and leave you to bleed right there

And that's the reason you make sure you got the heat right here

Follow me into a place where your days ain't never fun

See a car cruise down the block window half down they aimin at you, you better run

Or end up dead with investigators putting a blanket over your head like Michael Jackson son

A place Where book smarts hold no value

Best believe that book won't keep the crook from shooting the gun at you

And out here cops don't care about the crime rates

I mean if all of the cops are crooked why would they care if I'm straight

Man in that place it seems as if there is never anything right there

Glad to say I got away to a better place, I see nothing but good right here

Growing up fast helped me escape all of those

Childhood nightmares
