Sprout

I used to be the Sunshine,
a child of light.
Unprepared for the cast of shadows
Of Darkness, of Night.
And into the depths I sank,
and flailed.
Beneath a turbulant sea of
insecurty and fear.

I used to dance among the Trees
Never caring to step on bramble or weeds.
Yet with as the callouses aged
and time moved on
I felt trepidation at the edge of the Woods.

And yet the Light was only obscured
I reached up a hand
I dug upfrom the Earth.
I draw in a breath and stand in a field
Ready to follow the paths now obscure.

Like a Dandelion whisk
That falls to the ground
Must be buried in dirt
To rise up again.
I reach out my leaves as I settle my roots,
Dance in the Sun
Long for the Moon.

The Darkness is in us
But so is the Light
and neither is fearful
if the balance is right.

Its the growing that's hard,
Its the struggle to rise.
But every young sapling that does it will thrive.
