He Is My Hero
He and I, we are cousins
Childhood playmates, enclave
Playing 'til way after dark
Later, we grew apart
Years enhanced by flooded memories
Of days gone by
We went our separate ways
But together at holidays, with family
We retrieve that lost childish inspiration
Only to find silky aberrations
He was my hero, then, and, yes, now.
Trying to be like him, not for girls to do
Now that we're older, I relive the past
waiting for something that never comes
Sweet grief of old age
Why does the road turn?
About this poem
It is composed for my cousin, who has congestive heart failure. I hope he lives many more years, after he has a new method surgery for his heart.
