Complex Self-Identity Journey

In realms of thought where shadows dance,
The self, a tapestry of circumstance,
Threads of past and present weave,
A complex pattern, hard to conceive.

Identity, a chameleon's hue,
Shifting shades, a journey true,
A puzzle formed of joys and tears,
Moments cherished, echoing fears.

Growth emerges, a steady climb,
A mountain range, a paradigm,
Yet fragments of the former days,
Clutch like vines in intricate ways.

The past, a lantern in the dark,
Guiding steps, a fragile spark,
But also chains that bind and hold,
As tales of yore are often told.

Reconciling what was with what is,
A labyrinth where confusion lives,
The mirrors show a fractured face,
Searching for a moment's grace.

To integrate the pieces whole,
Requires courage, heart, and soul,
Acceptance of the flaws and scars,
And embracing change like falling stars.

For in the depths of selfhood's sea,
Lie the keys to becoming free,
The journey's essence lies within,
Embracing growth, shedding old skin.

So let us navigate this quest,
With open hearts, we do our best,
To merge the past and present's song,
In this symphony, we all belong.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
