Bandwidth
Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)
Bandwidth
Depression is a disease not a mood
And without the right medicine
My bandwidth becomes
Overwhelmed
Saturated by signals
Too much to bear
I am shocked into despair
Desperate for someone to delete
The melancholy and mendacity
Messages of get over it
Make me reach for the remote
To shut off the spew
Shouting from careless people.
Tuning into the still small voice
Inspires me to pay attention
Hugging a forgotten child
Who survived from a past
Everyone freaks out
When they see me
Hurts may heal
By scars always remain
I throw up my hands
When no one understands
Waiting for their turn to talk
Or worse judge me
Feeling no empathy at all.
A new vibe to broadcast awakens
When someone matches
My frequency inside
Music plays a rhythm
We recognize as the beat
From a heart that truly knows
The mundane disappears
In favor of magic
Color paints a beautiful picture
I lost in the rain
The flowers reappear
Hope takes my hand
And leads me from the shadows.
