SET YOU FREE

mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)

Sitting inside this window as if I was some exhibit on display every day is in reverse. What is building up inside of me? What is this curse? What are these screams that set my soul on fire? What is spilling through my veins like the desert's rain? Something about this life continues to make me want to fight.

They had me sign this contract before being set down. I felt as if I had died before I even hit the ground. I was naked and cold, kicking and screaming, thinking, what the f*ck am I still dreaming.

I picked my name, my life, and my death. Just like choosing your adventure, none of them are the same. I can not fast-forward to the future, and I can not rewind to the past, and at moments the present seems so unreal, but I can not taste, smell or touch it now. Ain't that some shit.

I'm in this room again, this life becoming another type of reality that I thought my aging eyes would never see. I'm on some medication. The doctors say we don't worry. They will put me at ease and set me free. I need my drugs, they say, because I have no energy from my mind-racing thoughts.

Come on, they say, let's play pretend there bathe in, is neither happiness nor sadness because you do not need them, for the sun is always shining back home, so why don't we set you at last free?
