Space Between Us

Karla Santos 1996 (Chihuahua)

Long distance, I had to love you from a distance. The first words in exchange from me to you and I fell in love in an instant. Was it fate, was it God or a coincidence. Til this day I wonder what it was cause I still miss you with no conditions. You and I wrapped up in a vision, been put on a mission to make it through this life together but we ended in collision. Hope you care to listen when I'm hurting cause this space between us kills me, but we gave it several tries I never needed some convincing. Just know throughout this distance, I still acknowledge your existence. Continue to reside within my thoughts but I refrain from asking for your assistance. The deepest form of love that you have shown, yes I definitely miss it. You sparked life into my soul, a bond so close to you I never felt alone. Now I have to hold on to your memory and the smell of your cologne. With zero conversation and this full-blown separation just know you felt like home, a safe haven when my spirit was so low. I had hopes for many years, yet we've been granted only 4. Now I'm longing for a phone call or that you'll show up at my door. Catch a glimpse of our past when my only wish was that we'd last. My favorite chapter in my book but I had to keep you in my drafts. Couldn't make it to the end, I guess there's no forever or a repeat of us again..

About this poem

I wrote this poem after I got my heart broken. I named this poem after the movie "The Space Between Us", which was recommended to me by my partner at the time.
