Sadness: loneliness

I took a walk for the first time
Since I lost you
There was the sound of a set of footsteps
For the first time
The sound of only my breathing
For the first time
A single shadow cast ahead on the cobblestone
For the first time
The absence of your hand in mine
For the first time
The absence of short meaningless conversations
For the first time
A single leaf dressed in autumn
Dropped from above
And as it lead it's path below, it brushed my skin just as lightly as you did
As you used to
And in that second
I closed my eyes
And pretended it was you

About this poem

The poem is about the days after you lose someone, the struggle of going back to normal without that person, and the little things we use to remember that person by, to survive without that person.
