Out of reach

There are moments in your travels
Where every mile slows the very second
Eyes glancing upon the steps in gravel
Heeding the memory as it’s perfected

We are unable to stay forever in hand
Entangling our souls with every tick
Aching hearts will never understand
Minds speeding time, as if it’s a trick

Aching for more, regaining what is lost
All illusions forced out by a darkness
Longin for our paths to again be crossed
Layering hearts into a lonely hardness

Open the eyes into what was endured
For sadness is not all that may be found
Love was lingering, tears were shared
As peace was left, all around was sound

About this poem

After traveling to see my dad, who was estranged most my life. I can home and wrote this poem, having to travel from the USA to Spain to see my birth father, lots of feelings and emotions arise.
