Missed opportunity

Steve Ellis 1959 (London)

She pauses as she leaves the car, her chauffeur drives away,  a homeless man on entrance steps, it's different today.  Although she feels compassion, there's many on the street, yet as she starts to climb those steps, by chance their eyes, did meet. She saw his eyes, so empty, they showed a broken soul,  she knew that living on the street has really taken it's toll. A smile appeared from nowhere, she gave one in return, a thousand questions in her head, for answers, now she yearned. Whilst seated in her office, her thoughts she couldn't guide, they kept on wrenching her away to the homeless man outside. That evening upon leaving, bombarding thoughts all day, she'd make up some excuses and find something to say. But as she neared the exit, crowd gathered, someone said, " That poor homeless guy sat on our steps, the police just found him dead. "
So if you feel connected, you really shouldn't wait, embrace that opportunity, or it may well be too late.
