I KEEP MY HEAD DOWN

mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)

I keep my head down as I continue to each day find myself a little deeper and a little further along my way. This is my path to my final journey, whether right or wrong. Who is to say what I am worth when I know my value? I keep my head down, not out of fear, because now, after talking to the spirits and counting my many blessing, I know, at last, I'm truly free. I walk with my hands behind my back because I'm moving forward and not side to side, so in this river, I hide.

I keep my head down, no longer feeling the need to shout or have any self-doubt, and now my smile and soul light up every room I walk through, spreading the love that I never thought was me or I would ever know.

I keep my head down to breathe the air that I now believe could be my first or last now I'm full of happiness and laughter, something I did not know in my past. I keep my head down because I know the way I must continue to walk until my loved ones lay me down in that six-feet-deep of dirt and kiss me softly goodbye, saying, please return to sender. Because you will not find this soul on the dirt-covered country road or a busy city street. He's got his trophy now. He is going home with his head held up high and not looking down.
