On Friendship

On Friendship

To silently support and hold your belief
To hold you up when you are consumed by grief
To embrace you for all of your idiosyncratic forms
To exist with you beyond the societal norms

To be born of love and kindness and grace
To know every line on your beautiful face
To walk beside you over the passage of time
To defend you with valour against any crime

To believe in your tears as much as your smiles
To conceive all of your fears and uniqueness of styles
To hold your position when you’re too weak to stand
To live with you through the poverty and the grand

To scale the heights of your profound achievements
To stand up for what’s right in the aftermath of bereavement
To go into battle for the honor of your name
To embrace you unconditionally through the anonymity and fame

To understand your intrinsic emotional complexities
To encourage you on your craft, work and dexterity
To elevate you beyond your best version of your self
To come and save you when you’re in poor health

To allow you the freedom to express your true soul
To endure the shared  process of what it means to grow old
To support you on whatever opinion you take on
To not transparently agree with you, especially when you’re wrong

To hold you accountable for what’s true and what’s right
To accompany you through the dark lonely night
To give you the comfort you need in a storm
To listen to your advice when you advise me and warn

To grant your perspective credence and intellectual weight
To have your back in a fierce debate
To give you insight when you’re faced with troubles
To always tell you the truth even if it bursts your bubble

To give our friendship the space to become a sacred bond
To help you find justice when you feel you have been wronged
To encourage your depth and your true voice to flow
To allow you to exceed beyond what you already know

To inspire your courage to bravely stand tall
To rewire your progress and retrieve you from the fall
To give you the unconditional comfort of a true friend
Who will remain by your side until our time on earth comes to an end

The End
