Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time I knew him well, a solitary soldier fighting a solitary war

I met him at dawn when the sky was clear, a man so broken that his hurt felt raw

He looked deep into my eyes, his wounds bleeding from the shards of glass he held onto tight

Revealing how a bruised boy grew into a bruised man, a bruised man standing tall, but too tired to fight

I knew him well and he knew me well, once upon a time

I loved him and he loved me, once upon a time

I was his and he was mine, once upon a time

Now he's gone, a life faded into just being "once upon a time."
