How tough I am?

How tough, I am?

As the Oak trees in wintertime
They never break down though and rough.
Though trees may break down in this fight
I shall not perish this fate.
Yet, the winter slashes me out;
My will shall not break down, I am rough.
Because as rough as wintertime, I am.

Rougher than the winter’s heavy breeze,
And the roots of Oak trees, I am tough.
Fertilized, energized, I am a warrior.
I will continue this fight: regardless.
Because in the midst of trembling,
And crying in wintertime.
My chest will carry it forward.
While bleeding, and suffering I will confront this life,
And all that wants to bring it down
I will endure wherever comes.
I will stand up, I will triumphantly survive:
All the rough tribulations I must overcome
For rough, and tough I am.

Through winter, spring, and autumn, summer times
I will survive; I will conquer the burdens of time.
The woods, the snow, the rain, the smile of the sun;
The happiness of the winter breeze,
It all will see a hammer it through.
Though woods remain still:
They may laugh at the suffering of time,
I shall not perish because a warrior I am.

I warrior I am: I am in command,
I will steer my fate honourably.
Though winter, and rainy days may come;
I am rough, tough, and a warrior
of wherever time that may come.

About this poem

Why this poem? As a former Military Police Non-Commissioned Officer, I have seen the cries of wintertime through, the tears of rainy days I have tasted, and the hottest of summertime I have hammered down. This poem was inspired by the following: Robert Frost_ Stopping by the Woods on a Snowing Evening, Shakespeare_ To Be Or Not To BE Emily Dickenson_ Hope In Flanders Fields Many other poets, and poems; most importantly, running under the snow, rain, and sunlight.
